We see supermodels grace the cover of magazines in all their statuesque glory- the piercing eyes, their gracefully arched back. We listen to our parents emphasising on the importance of good posture since young- sitting upright and definitely no slouching. When we stand tall and proud, we subconsciously exude an air of confidence and power, not to mention all the added health benefits that comes with an upright posture.
There is simply a treasure-trove of health benefits to be unearthed when one has an upright posture. A good posture facilitates better breathing as it opens up the airways allowing more oxygen to flow through our cardiopulmonary system. With more oxygen intake, we become more productive too. The increase in oxygen to the brain leads to an increase in brain activity, making us more alert and stimulates the flow of ideas and thoughts. An improvement in mood and reduction of stress levels are also credited to good posture, simply showing that developing an upright posture is undoubtedly of paramount importance.
The Ills of Bad Posture
Conversely, a poor posture drags us into a crash course of debilitating ailments. Bad posture aggravates stress and perpetuates negative emotions. When slouching, our organs don’t function optimally and internal processes slow down, leading to decreased energy levels. This causes you to feel irritated, tired and aggravated, amongst many others. Our intestines are also constricted when we slouch, causing digestive distress such as acid reflex and hernia. Poor posture also restricts blood flow which results in inefficient oxygen delivery, causing poor breathing. Perhaps the most crippling of all are the excruciating back, shoulder and neck pains. Slouching for extended periods of time causes a great deal of stress to our body and over time causes misalignment to our spines, further exacerbating the pain.
The Saving Grace
Good posture begins from the bottom up, starting with a pair of MBTs. The graphics below succinctly illustrates how simply wearing MBTs ensures a healthy posture while walking and even when standing.
As you can see, our pioneering MBT innovations stimulates more active muscles, creating increased stability in joints and thus allowing us to remain upright. This as compared to conventional shoes where we tend to lean forward, resulting in poor posture and minimal core muscle activity. The benefits of MBTs are still at work even while standing, where the active rocking movement on the balancing area enables high muscle activity.
The importance of a healthy posture can never be emphasised more. Take the first step towards a better posture and health; take the first step with MBT.
